Nescafé is the world's top-selling brand of instant coffee, made by Nestlé. The name is a portmanteau of the words "Nestlé" and "café". Nestlé's flagship powdered coffee product was introduced in Switzerland on April 1, 1938 after being developed for seven years by Max Morgenthaler and team. For many years, Nescafé was known in the United States as Taster's Choice.
